Upon my arrival at Wasps I was given the opportunity to create a gym space that I had always wanted to work in. Having visited and trained in many gyms around the world I had a pretty good idea of the kind of working space that I wanted to create. A gym for me has to be able to stand the test of time. I am not one for gimmicky trends that are so often pushed on environments and believe a gym should be a space that, regardless of program, should be able to cater for any program or vision. “The Scottish Institute of Sport placed a high premium on quality strength and conditioning support services from it’s inception in 1999. As a consequence we have sought to equip the Institute strength training Network with the best equipment on the market which means we now have 13 weight rooms stocked with over 44 Powerlift Multi Racks and Platforms.”

Head Strength and Conditioning Coach
Scottish Institute of Sport
The Scottish Institute of Sport was established in October 1998 to support the development of high performance sport and promote excellence in Scottish sport.
Over 240 of Scotland’s top athletes currently benefit from the support of the Scottish Institute of Sport, which includes individually tailored programmes to help them develop as world-class athletes. Dedicated programmes in coaching (including training and competition programmes), technical support, sports medicine, sports science, performance analysis, and Performance Lifestyle (formerly ACE UK) are all made available to the athletes within these programmes.
There are nine core sports in the Institute: athletics, badminton, curling, football, golf, hockey, judo, rugby, and swimming. In addition, the very top Scots performers from other sports have been identified to be part of the Institute’s Individual Athlete Programme.
Six Area Institutes have been established throughout Scotland. Their responsibility is to identify and nurture local talent through to Scottish Institute level. The six Area Institutes of Sport are: Central Scotland, East of Scotland, Grampian, Highland, Tayside and Fife, and West of Scotland. In addition, the Scottish Institute of Sport and the six Area Institutes of Sport are part of an operational network of centres throughout the UK that ensures Scottish athletes have access to the very best support, wherever they are based.
